Great Lakes Album
Folias Duo, flutist-composer Carmen Maret and guitarist-composer Andrew Bergeron, release their ninth studio album, Great Lakes, on August 14, 2026. The album will be available on all streaming platforms, as well as CD and vinyl via foliasmusicshop.com. It marks the duo's first vinyl release.
Great Lakes features eight original compositions: five inspired by the landscapes and histories of the Great Lakes region, and three exploring transformation, dreaming, and perception. Four singles precede the full release: "Lake Ontario" and "Lake Huron" are available now, with "Locust Storm" out May 15 and "The Way Through" arriving later this summer.
Over more than two decades, Folias Duo has built a distinctive path as composer-performers, blending classical training with improvisation, touring, and a fully independent approach to their work. After years of performing a wide range of repertoire, including a decade focused on tango, the duo shifted following the pandemic to presenting their own music exclusively.
That commitment defines Great Lakes, a project shaped by more than 20 years of self-produced touring, creative work, and collaboration. From the beginning, the duo has handled everything themselves: booking tours, creating programs, writing the music. They have given over 700 concerts across the U.S., South America, and Europe.
The album also reflects their deep connection to place. Based in Michigan, they tour extensively by car, often camping as they travel. Great Lakes is, in part, a return to the landscape that shaped them.
Recorded at Oktaven Audio in Mount Vernon, New York, and produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Charles Mueller, Great Lakes was captured using the studio's impressive collection of vintage gear. The result emphasizes the natural acoustics and spatial clarity of two performers playing together in the same room.
